High-resolution spectroscopy of high-temperature superconductors

 

 Abstract:

We will present recent results of high-resolution spectroscopic experiments on cuprate high-temperature superconductors. Specifically, we will discuss the application of neutron spin-echo spectroscopy with ~1 μeV energy resolution [1] to the magnetic resonant mode in underdoped cuprates, which yields the lifetime of the mode both in the superconducting and in the pseudogap regime [2]. We will also discuss recent results of resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) experiments with ~30 meV energy resolution that revealed a sharp crossover from coherent to incoherent spin dynamics around optimal doping [3]. High-resolution RIXS can also be used to measure the superconducting energy gap in a momentum-resolved, yet bulk-sensitive manner. [4] Finally, we will present the results of non-resonant inelastic x-ray scattering experiments with ~1 meV resolution [5] to phonons and charge-density-wave excitations in underdoped cuprates under uniaxial strain [6].
